Conveniently located northeast of San Diego, the charming community of Lakeside, Calif., is one of the Golden State's finest communities. Although this tight-knit community may be one of the smaller areas in California, many residents enjoy living in Lakeside apartments for rent because they have the warm, welcoming atmosphere that is so attractive for many growing families but still have all the amenities of a metropolis like San Diego nearby. According to City-Data, the word is out on this great town, as well, since Lakeside saw a 5.6 jump in population from 2000 to 2010.
The city saw its beginnings in 1886 due to the construction of the Lakeside Inn as a tourist destination for residents in the many large cities of southern California. For years, the city became known as the perfect place to enjoy relaxing activities like fishing, boating and hunting due to its prime location near beautiful Lindo Lake. After the railroad connected Lakeside to San Diego in 1889, many Californians began choosing Lakeside as their new home and a small community was formed. As time went on, Lakeside became known less for their famous inn and more for the sport of rodeo, a tradition that has continued to this day. Today, the city is far exceeded its start as a tourist attraction, now possessing a friendly small-town atmosphere that has attracted many California families to the area. According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the city is now home to more than 20,000 happy residents and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Undoubtedly, the biggest attraction in the area is the annual Lakeside Rodeo held every spring. A true community event, this Wild West extravaganza is complete with bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and team roping. This event has been in Lakeside for more than 40 years and has begun to gain quite a bit of national exposure over the years.
