Los Feliz is one of the most fashionable and upscale neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area. It's located in the central region of the Southern California metropolis, east of Hollywood and west of Downtown Los Angeles. The area lies north of what's considered the two coolest neighborhoods in L.A.: Echo Park and Silver Lake.
Los Feliz is split roughly fifty-fifty between apartment buildings and single-family houses. The houses are mostly in the northern, hilly part of the area. The rest of the neighborhood has many apartments for rent. Whether a studio suits your needs or you're looking for something a bit larger, there are a variety of options here. The community generally has a somewhat fashionably run-down vibe, which is attractive to a generally younger crowd. Find ways to make your apartment match this atmosphere on the Rent.com blog.
The nightlife in Los Feliz is legendary and considered by some to be the best in Los Angeles. The Indian restaurant Arnabagh on Franklin Boulevard near Vermont Avenue is reputed to be one of the best East Asian joints in the region. If you are looking for American food, you have an overwhelming number of choices in this neighborhood. Community Los Feliz is rumored to be better than all the rest. It is located on Hillhurst Avenue near Price Street and serves sandwiches, burgers and more at reasonable prices.
The public transportation in Los Feliz is expanding and improving day by day. There are many bus stops in the neighborhood for those who don't have a car or just prefer public transit. Plans are in motion to expand Los Angeles' subway to the area in the near future.
While there are no institutions of higher education actually within the neighborhood, there are many within a short drive. The University of Southern California is located within University Park, just a 10 to 15 minute drive south. Students looking for a community college to attend will likely select Los Angeles City College, which is just west of the neighborhood in East Hollywood.
Los Feliz was where Disney was first located, and though it is now in Burbank, which is a few miles further north, many employees live in the area. ABC Television Center is located in the area, and many residents of the neighborhood work there. Additionally, many employees of Los Angeles City College live in the area due to its proximity to the school.
