Uptown is located in Alameda county and there are continuous improvements to the community to uphold the entertainment center and the downtown area. As the community continues to improve, prices are continuing to increase in the area especially as many people will begin to see Uptown Oakland as an attractive place to live, work, and hang out.
Among the redevelopment projects are changes to the apartments in Uptown Oakland. Larger, more upscale apartments are replacing the older apartments in the area. For example, The Uptown, is a five story, three building complex and is one of the largest new apartment buildings in the area. Rent in this building ranges anywhere from $1900 to $3300 per month. The square feet of the studio style would start at $1900 per month and would be around 535 square feet. The rent for similar places in the area will average around the same amount per month, therefore, it can easily get a little expensive to rent Uptown Oakland apartments, but it is still a much more affordable alternative to other Bay Area cities.

Anyone that knows the community well, raves about the B on Broadway shuttle because it is free and provides transportation to Old Oakland, Chinatown, City Center, Lake Merritt, and Jack London Square throughout the weekday into downtown from select locations and runs late into the night. The 19th Street known also as the Oakland BART station is the man station in the area. Local buses are also an option for getting around the community. Driving is not recommended, as parking will be difficult to locate being a high traffic area for shopping and entertainment. The city has also started a bike and pedestrian program, which will increase the number of pedestrian and bike friendly options in Uptown Oakland soon.
The Uptown Oakland school system is split depending on the boundaries of where you may be living. However, most of the schools in the area are related to the arts. There are three elementary schools, six middle schools, and three high schools. Oakland School for the Arts continues to receive high reviews from around the state of California for its curriculum and the level of engagement between the students and the teachers.
