Overview of Rialto

Known as a sunny, Southern Californian "Bridge to Progress," it is no wonder that so many people are settling down into Rialto apartments for rent. An ethnically diverse and family friendly community, Rialto is one of the fastest growing regions in the country due to its ideal location, Mediterranean climate and high quality of life. According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, the city had an estimated 2011 population of more than 100,000 residents with around 33 percent being under the age of 18, making Rialto the ideal size and atmosphere for young families.

Living in Rialto, CA

Because of Rialto's beautiful location in the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains, the city has been a settling spot for newcomers ever since the Spanish came into the area in the 16th century. After the Mormons settled in the community in the mid-1800s, the many farmers were attracted to the success of the citrus groves, ranching fields and vineyards that began to sprout up. In 1887 after the first railroad made its way to Rialto, land and water companies were instituted and the city began to take its shape.

Despite the crash of the California Gold Rush in the late 1800s, Rialto continued to exhibit growth and prosperity. However, in the 1920s a fire swept through the area and the city was forced to rebuild.  After World War II, the city's population exploded from around 3,000 residents to more than 75,000 by the early 1990s. Today, the city of Rialto continues to be proud of its educational and cultural influence. With so much economic, residential and commercial growth in the area, Rialto is showing no signs of slowing down.

The community is also an ideal place for multinational business because of its close proximity to three airports, interstate highways and rail service.

Rialto is located nearby several secondary institutions, including the San Bernardino campus of California State University. Part of the community since 1965, this school offers more than 70 traditional undergraduate and graduate degrees and has recently introduced doctoral programs for the first time. One of the most diverse schools in the country, it has the second-highest enrollments for African-American and Hispanic students in California. Further south is The University of California at Riverside, a conveniently located campus with more than 20,000 students. This school has seen tremendous growth since its remodeling efforts so many scholars flock to UCR for its fresh, new campus. Students in the area might benefit from beginning their search for Rialto apartments well before school starts each semester to make sure they secure their perfect pad.
