For young families, couples and professionals with roommates who call southern California home, the Mission Bay area offers some of the best 2 bedroom apartments for rent in San Diego. In addition to scenic bay and ocean views, the area offers all the great resources those who lead an active lifestyle could dream up - there's no shortage of water sports, nor of beautiful parks and beaches - as well as plenty of ways to relax afterwards.
Water sports are one of San Diego's signature activities. The city is a hotbed for surfers, scuba divers and kayakers - and much of these sports happen in Mission Bay.
Located in the northwest corner of San Diego, the Mission Bay neighborhood is named after one of the most frequented bodies of water in the area, nestled between Sail Bay and Fiesta Bay, all of which lead quickly out to the Pacific Ocean.
Numerous surf shops line Mission Avenue, the main drag within the neighborhood, and whenever it's sunny, the waves are almost sure to be replete with surf boards and men and women in wetsuits. But surfers aren't the only ones who will find plenty to do in Mission Bay. Many sailboats dot these waters, and more extreme water sports enthusiasts can opt to ride Jet Skis, wakeboard, bodyboard or kitesurf.
Fishing enthusiasts can sign up to go out with one of several recreational fishing boats that takes passengers and departs from Mission Bay for half-, full- and multi-day excursions.
Meanwhile, ocean-loving families with young children can take advantage of Sea World San Diego and the water rides at the Sea World Marina, both of which are located on the southern strip of Mission Bay.
Those who prefer to use the water as a backdrop to their activities rather than as the main attraction won't be disappointed in Mission Bay, either. No fewer than 27 miles of biking, skating and walking paths wrap around the bay, and the neighborhood has a number of parks that overlook the water and offer endless possibilities for recreation.
Fiesta Island Park provides a large beach where those who'd like to take in the view of the waves rather than ride them can stroll the sands for hours. Ski Beach Park is located on a small island in the bay, which is also home to a model yacht pond.
To the south are Ocean Beach Park and Ocean Beach Dog Beach, where pet owners can meet up and chat while their dogs socialize by the waves.
Let's face it: All that activity can get tiring after too long. Luckily, Mission Bay isn't all water and parks.
Ocean Beach is home to a large subset of artists, and many of them have work in the local galleries. There are also quite a few great bars and restaurants in this particular district, so a great meal and a few drinks will be easy to find once you're finished skiing. And you can do all this in full view of the Sunset Cliffs and breathtaking Pacific vistas.
