Overview of Mira Mesa

If you’re looking to rent a Mira Mesa apartment, you’ll be in good company. This suburb is one of San Diego’s largest—and fastest growing—communities. Just to the south you’ll find Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. You’ve also got the University of California San Diego, Qualcomm, biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, and other major employers nearby. This northern part of San Diego is so well provisioned it sometimes feels like its own city. It may still be developing its own distinct personality, but it has a lot of raw material to work with.

Mira Mesa was built up in the 1950s. Before then, it was a test zone for the U.S. Army. When the housing boom hit San Diego, this area became one of the first places to get developed. Homes here were built so rapidly that residents arrived faster than schools, restaurants, or services could keep up. Luckily, there’s been time for the community to equalize since those early days.
