Newspaperman E.W. Scripps was the first to build in this part of San Diego. He loved the mesa’s climate so he bought 2,100 acres. Today over 30,000 people call Scripps Ranch home. While the community used to sit on the secluded edge of San Diego, sprawl has edged Scripps Ranch closer towards the center.

Scripps Ranch isn’t a hive of retail activity. This is the type of neighborhood where you can find the shops you need, pick your favorite local restaurant, and take it easy. You’ll find grocery stores, shops, eateries, and services around the edges of Scripps Ranch. Check out the weekly farmer’s market for fresh produce or Ballast Point Brewing for a cold beer.

The outdoor highlight of Scripps Ranch is Miramar Reservoir. Along with picnic areas and a five-mile trail for joggers and bikers, this park provides facilities for fishing and boating. The Scripps Ranch Recreation Center has an indoor gymnasium, lighted ball fields and courts, and barbeque and picnic areas.
