This complex allows smoking and smokers have free reign. If management chose to, they could adopt a policy of no smoking in the complex. I've spoken with Michael about this and he has said the owners are not going to do that. Most likely it comes down to their greed versus caring for their tenant's concerns. Smokers walk around the complex and the smoke drifts into our apartment and then they toss their butts on the walkways and driveways. Worst of all, management rented to someone across the walk to a smoker and now the stench drifts in through our windows whenever we are home. I don't like having my windows closed but I cannot live with the stench. I told Michael previously that if he wanted me gone, to just rent to a smoker next door. He did. I'm sure he lives in a none smoking complex and doesn't have to breathe someone else's stench.

Aspens is the best place I've ever lived. Managers and staff are very friendly and helpful. Amenities are terrific. Landscaping is amazing. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I would buy my apartment and retire her if I could.

The sink smells like sewer gas. I asked the management to do something and they came and snaked it but it still smells terrible. I complained about it again and their response was to pour some chlorine down the drain. I tried that and no difference. Something is wrong in these old buildings and the management won't fix the problem.

When I signed my lease at the Aspens I was misled by the agent in a few different ways. This complex is an open smoking zone. You CAN SMOKE INSIDE THE APARTMENT or out. This was not disclosed to me at signing. I've been in my apartment for over a year and it still smells like smoke. The agent also mentioned that rent rarely increases unlike bigger companies that auto increase each year (i.e. The Irvine Company). It would have been nice to know upfront that it would most likely increase, since it did by $50. Keep in mind, there are no added perks or benefits to the living space. The buildings are old, the landscape is beautiful but insect and vermin run rampant. The amenities are mediocre and the guest parking is horrible. Good luck getting anyone to come visit you after 5pm! The package room is a nightmare. Packages often get put in the wrong place and their "security system" for monitoring the package room is based on whether or not they "recognize" the person walking in as a tenant. The staff is of zero to no help if you can't find your package as it is not their responsibility. Lastly, they do not keep your balance up-to-date on the Pay Lease system. Instead, you get a physical letter in the mail any time of any pending balances due. No email, no update on Pay Lease. After my rent increase, I did not realize I had been underpaying until I was slapped with a $50 late fee two months later. Yes, it is my fault I didn't check to make sure I was paying the full amount, but I mistakenly thought the system would auto-deduct the new rent amount. I understand that it is considered "legally notified" if you receive a letter in the mail, but do you really want to live in a place that provides you with important updates via physical mail with no option for email? The one thing I that did remain consistent is that the neighborhood is very quiet, which I love. If you dont care about any of the concerns I mentioned above, then I would say its a decent place to live.
