                    Home to more than 107,500 people, Pueblo, Colo., is located about 45 miles south of Colorado Springs. The standalone city is located on the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek, making it an important trading center for southeastern Colorado. The city's two nicknames are "Steel City" - which it earned by becoming one of the largest steel-producing cities in the country - and "Home of Heroes."                     Originally a small fort called Fort Pueblo, the city has transformed itself over time. When ore mines came to the area, the tiny fort began to grow, especially because of its riverside location. The towns of Pueblo, South Pueblo, Central Pueblo and Bessemer evolved from the spread of the ore mining industry, and were eventually combined to form modern-day Pueblo.
