Aggressive at time of move out. After many years at Hamden Town Walk, starting as an Avalon tenant, I have to Read More break my lease and move on. I am now told, there is no option to break the lease, the tenant must pay a two month rent fine and pay the rent until the end of the lease period. This hardly seems legal, is certainly not ethical and definitely not neighborly or good customer service.

On a lease here from nov 2016 to nov 2017. No pets. I would never recommend this complex to anyone!! First off Read More the rent is expensive. The staff were rude and unable to accommodate any of my reasonable requests! Especially disappointing when you are paying a good amount for rent each month. I had a 500 dollar deposit bc I was a Yale hospital employee. Upon my move out, they were not able to schedule an initial assessment on the weekend, bc they arent done on weekends. Inspections are only done m-f 2-4pm, I guess good luck to those that work regular working hours! In the lease agreement it states all residents must shampoo their carpet when they leave. My carpet was spotless, no damage, no smell, or stains, honestly I barely lived there bc I spent much of my time at my boyfriends. They charged me for carpet shampooing, deducting it from my security deposit at move out. This was upsurd!!!! There were no damages to the carpet so my use was standard and expected (normal wear and tear). Therefore, regular shampooing is property managements responsibility, as they do it before new tenets move in anyways. I could understand the charge if there were damages but there wasnt- and I have pictures to prove it! They just wanted me to cover the cost bc they out source these jobs! Lastly, I had a carport that I got in the middle of my lease. Once I was pretty much staying w my boyfriend- last 4 months of my lease, I asked to discontinue my carport. They would not allow this saying I had to keep it until the end of my lease! So unbelievable and unreasonable...DO NOT LIVE HERE!

I really like living here! The maintenance crew is nice and responsive. I have not had to wait more than a day Read More or two for service. The amenities are most welcome. I appreciate having a gym and pool close by. I have not used the grills yet, but come this summer I might. It's pretty quiet and the neighbors are friendly, but not overly friendly (not in my business , etc.). It's on the D bus line and there is shopping near by. I love that the walking/bike trail is right behind the complex.

I haven't had any issues here in the past three years. I love my apartment, I love the atmosphere - very subur Read Moreban and peaceful, convenient location. Landscaping is great, the pools and apartment gyms are nice, and there are options for activities at the community center - I haven't taken part in any, but the option is nice. Maintenance and the mail room have good service - no complaints at all. I could probably get more space for the price with a private rental, but that's always higher risk.
