Living in Clearwater
The city's history dates back to the Civil War, when Union gunboats raided the area now known as Clearwater looking for supplies. Following the war, the town began to develop the first passenger railroad line. Shortly thereafter, Henry B. Plant, founder of the Plant system of railroads and steamboats, built a Victorian resort hotel near present-day Clearwater, and the city began to develop a reputation as a vacation destination.
Today, Clearwater's population exceeds 107,000, and with plenty of festive annual events and four white, sandy beaches, residents renting apartments here will never have a shortage of things to do.
Outdoor enthusiasts will bask in the Superboat International Championship, the Florida Strawberry Festival, and the Fun 'N Sun Festival, while artsy types will want to check out the Imagine International Film Festival, the Capitol/Royalty Theatre, and the Clearwater Public Art and Design Program. Jazz aficionados should be sure to explore the Clearwater Jazz Holiday, which occurs every October.
Perhaps it comes as no surprise that active swimmers will find a well matched home in Clearwater. The city has five pools as well as a recreational summer pool league and an Aquatics Team. Residents will want to take a stroll around the recently renovated downtown area, which is
approximately 2 miles from Clearwater Beach and conveniently located near restaurants, bars, and other amenities.
