The Little Haiti Miami neighborhood is just outside the downtown section of the city. Miami has become a melting pot for Latin American immigrants who have traveled to the United State from third world nations. Little Haiti is just one of the neighborhoods that these immigrants have set up. You could consider this a haven for someone who wants to bask in Caribbean culture, but this neighborhood is not always as nice as you may want it to be. Some parts have problems with high crime rates, so you'll definitely want to scout out your section of the neighborhood before you sign a lease.
When you are renting in Little Haiti Miami, you must choose the location in the district you want move to. You will pay at least $1000 a month for an apartment, but the prices will climb if you are living on the edge of the community. The center of the area has lower rent prices because the area is not as clean or safe. The outskirts of the neighborhood rest near downtown Miami, and prices will immediately rise because you are close to a nicer part of town. A major thoroughfare like Biscayne Boulevard runs right through the area, and apartments are more expensive along this road.
The Caribbean immigrants that came to America brought with them their own culture. If you want to immerse yourself in Caribbean food, music, dance and cultural traditions, you can venture into the center of the community every day. You will find a variety of restaurants and shops that are all owned by local immigrants. Some of these buildings have apartments above them, and you may want to rent above one of these local landmarks if you wish to truly live inside the Haitian culture.
A majority of Little Haiti Miami apartments do allow cats or dogs. However, this is an urban enclave does not contain all the sidewalks and dog paths that you might expect in more affluent area of the city.
When you are trying to commute within the city of Miami, you will have to use the surface streets and bus service. The major highways are a few blocks away, and you must take the bridge to get to Miami Beach. Congestion is low in this area because few people own cars, but you may run into congestion when you get closer to the downtown part of Miami.
Little Haiti is served by Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The schools in this area are affected by the lower socioeconomic standing of many of the residents, but there are a few religious schools that you may prefer to enroll your children in.
