Living in Miramar, FL

The community of Miramar was created as a bedroom community for two nearby metropolises, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. In 1953, A.L. Mailman bought the property that is now known as Miramar. He purchased the land from H.D. Perry, who was recognized as one of the foremost pioneers of the city. Mailman built 56 homes on the property, and since they were inexpensive buildings made from concrete with flat roofs, they sold very quickly.

During this time, there were only a few roads that provided access to the community, including U.S. 441, Hallandale Beach Boulevard and Pembroke Road. Unlike many other emerging cities, Miramar's growth happened at a steady pace because of the careful planning of the city's founders. Today, there is still one-third of the land that has not been developed. Present administration has been trying to preserve the character of Miramar, while allowing for growth in the city.

Miami Dade College is just 20 miles away from Miramar and offers more than 300 academic areas of study on eight campuses.
