Overview of Brookhaven

If you rent a Brookhaven apartment, you may live in Atlanta. Confused? Don’t be. There are two contiguous parts of Georgia known as Brookhaven. “Historical Brookhaven” is in Buckhead and part of Atlanta. The DeKalb County community east and north of that neighborhood is also Brookhaven—but that’s not included in incorporated Atlanta. Historical Brookhaven is centered on the Capital City Club—one of Atlanta’s oldest private social clubs. It’s a sedate area of lovely single-family homes. The rest of Brookhaven is suburban without feeling far from the city. The MARTA station helps!

John Evans was the first European to settle in Brookhaven. He built a plantation here in 1810. Later, Atlanta residents created a summer cottage community in the area. A planned development grew around the newly constructed golf course in the early 20th century. Brookhaven saw speedy residential development as of the 1950s. Today a number of bucolic Brookhaven neighborhoods prove attractive to prospective renters.

Brookhaven Lifestyle and Entertainment

For the most part, Brookhaven is suburban. There are a few commercial strips, notably in Brookhaven Village. There, in the town center, you’ll find a pub, a coffeehouse, retails shops, and more. There’s also Brookhaven Station shopping center, on Peachtree Road, near the MARTA station. There are a number of good-sized parks in Brookhaven. Capital City Country Club is private, but Blackburn Park and Murphey Candler Park are both well apportioned. The latter has a lake, too. Lynwood Park has ball courts, a pool, a recreation center, and a picnic area.

Brookhaven Info and the Rental Market

You’ll find a wide range of rental properties available in Brookhaven. Around the country club, there are single-family homes designed by well-known Atlanta architects. Mixed-use developments can be found in Brookhaven Village and other areas. Lynwood Park is good for craftsman-style homes and there are apartment complexes along Buford Highway. While buying a home here can be seriously expensive, rentals aren’t too bad. The average rent for a Brookhaven apartment will set you back about $1,200 a month.

While Brookhaven may spill over the edge of Atlanta, the Brookhaven-Oglethorpe MARTA station keeps the community within commuter range. There are also city buses that serve this area. Major arteries such as Peachtree and North Druid Hills roads aid drivers heading Downtown.
