My family and I are relocating from Tennessee to Augusta, GA due to my husband getting a job with Southern Company. We leased an apartment at Traditions for 4 months (while our house is being built) after doing a tour of the property. We were not sent the lease agreement for a few days due to their screening process (which we, of course, passed). Upon receiving the lease agreement, we noticed that all of their addendums were standard with the exception of one - the "Bed Bug" addendum. In fact, on the first page of the typed/printed lease, the complex had actually hand written in that there was an additional addendum entitled "Bed Bug." In short, this addendum is NOT the National Apartment Association's standard addendum (which can be found in 99% of apartment community's leasing paperwork). Please beware - this community has added a non-standard bed bug addendum which essentially states that the tenant will be responsible for any bed bug damages inside of their own apartment whether or not they brought in the bed bugs. PLEASE note: my family nor I have ever had any issues with bed bugs, but what the average leasee isn't aware of is that bed bugs travel at a rate of FIVE FEET PER MINUTE. This makes apartment communities at a high risk for bed bug travel/infestation since a neighboring tenant could bring them into a building and their unaware neighbors (i.e. YOU) could be infested in a matter of hours, days, etc. without any prior knowledge of this issue.
