About

Cumming, GA

Overview of Cumming

The village of Cumming, Ga., is the seat in Forsyth County and has a population of approximately 5,600, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Its residents enjoy its convenient location on Interstate 400 and close proximity to Atlanta. People looking for Cumming apartments for rent will find an affluent, tight-knit community with thriving commerce.

Living in Cumming, GA

Cumming was established in 1834 and was partitioned from a section of Cherokee County territory. During the 1950s, the area became one of the largest poultry providers in the state, and the county is still home to many successful non-agricultural firms and light industrial companies. More people relocated to the area during the 1970s upon the completion of Georgia Interstate 400.

Cumming today offers many employment opportunities and the area's unemployment numbers are significantly lower than the state average. More than 8,400 commuters find jobs in the city in industries such as retail trade, construction and manufacturing. Because of the city's ideal location, residents enjoy access to many amenities such as hospitals, an Amtrak station and several institutes of higher education, including Gainesville State College and Kennesaw State University. Cumming also offers cultural opportunities at the Cumming Playhouse and many acres of parkland, sports leagues and athletic classes through the Cumming Recreation and Parks District.

Cumming Attractions and Special Events

Cumming's most popular tourist attraction is Lake Sidney Lanier, perfect for boating, water sports and more. Residents also enjoy the Aquatic Center & Water Park during the summer and can attend year round swimming and CPR lessons there. Residents and visitors alike pay homage to people who served the country at the Veterans War Memorial, which hosts annual Memorial Day ceremonies. The town's longest standing tradition is the annual 4th of July Steam Engine Parade, and residents get another glimpse into the past at the historical Brannon Heard House, originally built in 1905 as a hotel.

When residents want the feel of a larger city, they can travel roughly 39 south to Atlanta and enjoy all it has to offer.
