Rincon, Ga., is the largest municipality in Effingham County and is situated in the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area. It has a population of approximately 8,900. Rincon residents enjoy close proximity to Interstate 95 and Highway 21, offering them easy access to the larger cities of Pooler and Savannah. The city has retained its small town charm while expanding to accommodate its growing business community. Rincon sprang to life in the early 1900s with the arrival of a railroad in the area. It was appropriately named at first because in Spanish, Rincon means "little spot." However, it didn't stay that way for long. The area was home to sawmills, cotton gins and turpentine stills and Rincon was incorporated in 1927. In the 1980s, the city again experienced dynamic growth.
