Overview of Streeterville

The Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago is a bustling downtown filled with historic landmarks, tourist attractions, spectacular shopping, and beautiful skyscrapers. Streeterville Chicago lies east of the Magnificent Mile to Lake Michigan, and is actually a reclaimed sandbar that is now home to Chicago’s most expensive real estate. This sandbar was first “discovered” by George Wellington “Cap” Streeter, for which it was eventually named, but it was part of a historic legal fight between Streeter and the city at the turn of the 20th century.

After its start as a shantytown, this land has experienced economic boons after both world wars, and its current splendor began as part an urban renewal plan that started in the 1950s. Now Streeterville is home to some of Chicago’s tallest skyscraper, upscale hotels, restaurants, and shopping.
