Forest Park lives up to its motto of "Big-city access, small-town charm." Located just 10 miles away from downtown Chicago, Forest Park offers residents the benefits of close-knit neighborhood living with the opportunities of being next to a large city. With many of its streets still paved with original cobblestones, this alluring neighborhood has managed to retain its small-town charm while gaining many boutiques, shops and restaurants that make it a more bustling place to live for apartment renters.
Even though Forest Park was incorporated in 1907, the town had a long history before that. Native Americans lived in the area, and the first white settlement was created in 1856 after the arrival of the railroad. Until 1907, the settlement was known as Harlem.
Today, the town has a diverse population of approximately 14,000 residents.
Forest Park is a great place for a family to rent an apartment. The town has great public schools, including a science academy. With the Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Lincoln Park Zoo all under half an hour away, families have plenty of fun options to help enrich their children's lives.
For young professionals renting an apartment here, Madison Street is a center of shopping and dining. Young professionals can also take advantage the town's proximity to Chicago to watch the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Chicago Bulls at the United Center, and the White Sox at US Cellular Field.
While many residents depend on their cars, there are multiple public transportation options for apartment renters to take that will link them to the city of Chicago. Forest Park has stops on both the Metra and Chicago Transportation Authority trains. The Pace Suburban Bus Service also has stops throughout town.
