In 1837, 16-year-old Rosell Hough came to the area with his family and went on to serve as a Chicago alderman, join the Union Army and be elected the first president of the Chamber of Commerce in Chicago. Upon retiring from his political career in the city, Rosell returned to the village and worked to bring new life to Roselle. There is even a rumor that Rosell paid the Chicago and Pacific Railroad Company $10,000 to have the train rerouted through Roselle to spur economic growth.
