Overview of Avon

Avon, Ind., is located approximately five miles west of Indianapolis in Hendricks County. The city has a population of approximately 12,600. What began as an agricultural leader - it is the birthplace of soybeans in America - is now a thriving suburb. The town has grown tremendously since 1952, when there were only three businesses. Now, Avon is home to more than 600 businesses. Avon apartments for rent are ideal for individuals and families looking for a tight-knit community that is in close proximity to a big city.

Living in Avon, IN

Avon dates back to 1858, when the city's first store was opened by a pack-peddler, someone who was coming through the area with goods. The city saw major agricultural growth after the Civil War. In the early 1990s, the Terre Haute, Indianapolis & Eastern Traction line opened through Avon and the town's population increased. The city continued to grow during the century, and Avon was incorporated in 1995.

Avon today offers people close proximity to all Indianapolis has to offer as well as its own successful business community. Avon's notable businesses include Harlan Bakeries, Phoenix Fabricators, Acme Masking, American Fasteners and Mears Machine. There are three hospitals within 11 miles of the city and several colleges nearby, including Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Butler University. Residents can keep up with all the town has to offer on the Avon Facebook page.
