Located in the tri-state metropolitan area and home to a regional hub for business, education and industry in northwest Iowa, Sioux City is a great place that many proud Iowans call home. With its great schools, incredibly low cost of living and pro-business atmosphere, it is no wonder that so many people in the Midwest are finding excellent Sioux City apartments for rent. Sioux City has won several awards, including being ranked in 2010 by Forbes magazine as one of the top 15 Best Places for Businesses and Careers.
Sioux City has a number of historic sites, due to its history that now spans more than 150 years. The city quickly became a hub for commerce due to its close location to Nebraska and loads of Prairie Produce. The city has a history in manufacturing, with everything from bricks to candy being produced here. The city also became well known for its corn palaces - gigantic structures that were built in the 1880s as a marketing gimmick to advertise the state's largest cash crop. Today, the city remains a large contributor to agribusiness. According to the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, farming and food processing still remain the city's top employing industries.
One of the neighborhoods in the city that many Sioux City residents take a great deal of pride in is the Historic Fourth Street district, one of the few places in the area to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With many blocks of 18th-century architecture echoing back to the pioneer days of of Midwest, these buildings are now preserved as a strip of fine dining restaurants, gift shops, coffee houses and pubs.
