Local Reviews

I like that our house is very close to our children's elementary school. It's conveniently located to grocery stores and fast food/take out restaurants. Everything is within a 5 minute drive.

the school is directly behind us. That is good and bad, but it's kind of cool for families that have kids in school. it is a block's walk away. there is a walking path that goes along a creek, just down the road.

what is unique our location / so easy to access key areas of metro area. we have 6 foot wide sidewalks and two great parks within blocks

wooded area behind my home Near restaurants, gas station, near shopping grocery stores near, interstate nearby

I love the trees and outdoor spaces in our neighborhood. The variety of grocery stores are amazing. Everything from economy stores like Aldi and high end stores make it interesting.

I like living here because there is a park you can walk to where everybody is welcome. Also up the street there is a Walgreens you can easily walk to.

About

Urbandale, IA

Overview of Urbandale

With its safe streets, small-town charm and thriving business districts, it's no wonder Urbandale is a desirable and popular place to live in the Des Moines metro area. While people come to the city for a variety of reasons, they stay because it's a great place to raise a family, start a business or retire. It's no wonder Urbandale was named one of CNN's Best Places to Live in 2007.

Those who come to the city may be seeking Urbandale apartments for rent. No matter what neighborhood they're looking in, renters will find that the area's friendly atmosphere makes moving to this city easy on the whole family.

Living in Urbandale, IA

Urbandale traces its history back to 1917, when it was incorporated. It was a tiny town for several years after, with just a few hundred residents. After World War II, suburbs became popular places to live, and the city's population grew rapidly.

This streetcar was important to Urbandale's development, and it helped the area grow as a commuter town. Early residents used it to access work at the nearby mines, while later residents would take advantage of this public transportation system to get to their jobs in downtown Des Moines.

As of July 2011, Urbandale was home to more than 40,000 residents. It has become a vibrant, livable community that is virtually unrecognizable from its beginnings as a small town of just over 200 residents.

Urbandale Work and Study

Students in Urbandale will find that Kaplan University has a Des Moines campus located conveniently close to home. With different degree programs in the arts, business and health, many students should be able to find a program to suit their interests. Those interested in pursuing a career in the medical industry can choose to further their education at Des Moines University, also just a short drive from Urbandale. As Iowa's largest medical school, the campus provides students with all the latest technology and amenities they need to learn, but it retains the feel of a much smaller college. With a history dating back to 1898, the university is known as an established and prestigious medical school.

Despite the presence of colleges, Urbandale is much more than a college town - it's a thriving business center. Many residents are employed by companies such as Marsh & McLennan, CitiGroup, Wells Fargo Financial and Iowa Home Care. Some other residents find employment with the public sector, and serve the U.S. Postal Service or the Urbandale Community Schools.
