It stands at the corner of Tulane Avenue and Rampart Street and is among the oldest International Style buildings in New Orleans and serves as an archetype of Art Deco design. The California Building was designed in 1949 by Benson and Reihl Architects and constructed in 1950 as part of the post-World War II building boom when discoveries and demand of oil and gas brought considerable prosperity to both the city and Louisiana. Since its construction, the California Building has housed several companies including its original occupant, the California Insurance Company and several banks. Buildings such as 1111 Tulane Ave are both modest and grand in their sue of materiality and crisp detail. Like few other buildings in New Orleans, 1111 Tulane exemplifies the transition of a city with a strong Colonial past, to a modern, technologically driven port and vital economic locus. The revitalized 10 story building now features retail space on the first floor and 167 residential units on the upper floors.

    Amazing place to live! Maintenance is quick to respond to any maintenance request. Brittany and Jordan in the management office are wonderful and always so helpful!

    Property does not return calls or emails. Was told by locals that they are not really trying to rent property it's mostly air bnbs any way. Would be nice if they called back I am an excellent tenant.
