Located close to many major highways near Baltimore and that city's international airport, the town of Severn is one of Maryland's most sought-after communities. Because of the city's high quality of life, its location between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, and plenty of outdoor recreation, Severn apartments for rent have become one of the tri-state area's hottest commodities. According to information from City-Data, because of all of the positive traits the city has to offer, it saw a 26 percent jump in population from 2000 to 2010, making it a growing community popular with many Maryland families.

Living in Severn, MD

Anne Arundel County began to take shape with its first European settlement in 1649 after the colony of Maryland's charter was signed. As the major cities in the mid-Atlantic region began to expand, the areas around Severn began to be established as a summer playground for wealthy urban residents. After World War II, suburban expansion increased industrialization in the community and Severn established itself as a city in its own right.

Today, the area has grown into a city of more than 44,000 residents, according to 2010 data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Because of the city's excellent school system and kid-friendly amenities, more than a quarter of the population is 18 or younger, making Severn an ideal location for many new Maryland families.

Severn Attractions and Special Events

Since the city got its start as a summer playground for city dwellers, it makes sense that the parks in this area are second to none. One of the city's most popular recreational areas is Midland Park, an expansive green space that offers bird watching, nature trails, and plenty of wildlife to enjoy. Another popular spot that locals have a great sense of pride in is the Severn Run Natural Environment Area, a state-owned 1,700-acre parcel of land that provides a natural habitat for many of the area's diverse species. The famous Severn River and numerous greenways that also pass through this area make this park a very popular thoroughfare for hikers, joggers, and cyclists.
