Overview of Billerica
Also known as the Yankee Doodle Town of America, Billerica, Mass., is a perfect spot for anyone looking to live in a community with historical charm.
Those interested in Billerica apartments for rent will find spots along the two waterways within the community, the Shawsheen and Concord rivers, which are extremely beautiful to look at each day. Residents will love the option of driving or taking public transportation into greater metropolitan Boston while having the choice to be tucked away in tranquil suburbia when they want.
Living in Billerica, MA
In the early 1600s Billerica was home to a Praying Indian village named Shawsheen. In 1638, two Massachusetts governors were given the right to begin to settle on the land. Over the years, more families began to move to the area, and eventually the name of the community was changed from Shawsheen to Billerica. Many speculate the name change was due to the fact many of the residents had relocated from Billericay in Essex, England.
This town is an excellent spot for families, as the Billerica Public School system operates six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. Although there aren't any private institutions located within Billerica, there are four Catholic high schools in neighboring communities.
Billerica Attractions and Special Events
Each year, Billerica residents can enjoy a variety of family and community-oriented activities. During the summers, Billerica hosts a community service day, art and photo contests, as well as other community festivals and fairs for all to enjoy.
