Living in Melrose, MA

Melrose was originally part of the Charlestown neighborhood when Boston was first explored and settled. The first explorers, Richard and Ralph Sprague, came into the area as early as 1628. By the mid-1800s, Melrose was connected to the Boston metropolitan area by the Boston and Maine Railroad, and eventually many commuters began flocking into the the town due to its charming atmosphere that was still minutes from everything Boston has to offer. Relics from Melrose's Victorian past are still on display today, as about 40 percent of the homes in the town were built before 1900. Today, the city of Melrose continues to look forward to the future. According to data from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, Melrose is home to more than 26,900 residents, and the number is expected to rise as more people find out about this excellent small town.
