Overview of Coopersville

With its newly renovated downtown, an expanding business community and great location between Grand Rapids and Muskegon, many Michigan residents are giving Coopersville a much-deserved second look. With a small-town atmosphere close to everything two large cities have to offer, this community offers the best of both worlds.

According to information from City-Data, this growing town has a cost of living index that is 15 points below the national average, making Coopersville apartments for rent a very affordable housing option for families looking to save money.

Living in Coopersville, MI

Named after its founder, Benjamin Cooper, a New Yorker who came to the area during America's westward expansion, the city's beginnings go back as far as 1845. After the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad came in the area shortly after, the community became profitable because of its lumbering and farming industries. Coopersville grew slowly over the years, suffering two major fires, but the city continued to expand in population at a rate of 2 percent annually.

Today, the city is home to more than 4,000 residents, according to 2010 City-Data information, and the area still maintains its agricultural roots with many farms. However, there is a growing small business community that is becoming more and more well-known to Michigan residents as Coopersville continues to grow and prosper.

Coopersville Attractions and Special Events

A week-long festival that features all of the best of the city, there are plenty of events for the whole family to be a part of, including a tractor show, pageant, live entertainment, car shows, art exhibits, pancake breakfasts and a 5K. Most of these events fund area charities, showing the giving heart of Coopersville.

One of the major attractions in the area is the Coopersville and Marne Railway train, a historic passenger rail that offers a trip back in time. Showcasing the luxury of train travel in the 19th century, this railway has many seasonal events themed around holidays like Christmas and fall events.
