Roseville, Mich., is a city in Macomb County that is located in the southeastern part of the state. It is considered part of the Metro Detroit area and is approximately a half-hour drive from Detroit itself. Roseville is strategically positioned along the routes of two major interstate highways - I-94, which vertically bisects the city, and I-696, which cuts through the area from east to west. Those interested in Roseville apartments for rent can get a good idea of the values held by the city's residents and incorporated into its operations from its seal, which features family, community, church and country.
Roseville was founded as part of Orange Township when Michigan became a state in 1837. In 1843, its name was changed to Erin. The area's first postmaster, William Rose, established the Roseville Post Office in honor of his father, a hero of the War of 1812, in 1840. However, Roseville was not incorporated as a village until 1926 and achieved city status in 1958.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Roseville encompassed 9.83 square miles in 2010 and had a population of more than 47,000 people.
Roseville is home to a variety of companies, including those in the automotive, military, printing and food service industries. Industrial property takes up approximately 681 acres of the city. The largest employers in the Detroit region include car manufacturers Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Government.
The Roseville Community School district is comprised of seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. In terms of further education, Dorsey Schools - which provides technology training and certifications for the business, computer, culinary arts, legal and business fields - has a Roseville location. Additionally, the neighboring city of Warren is home to Macomb Community College, which serves more than 48,000 students. There are also several educational institutions in Detroit, including the College for Creative Studies, the University of Detroit Mercy, Wayne State University and Marygrove University.
City-Data.com's March 2012 cost of living index placed the cost of living in Roseville at 89.9 - lower than the national average of 100. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the median gross rent of apartments in Roseville is $763.
Every November since 1978, Roseville has hosted the Roseville Big Bird Run, which is comprised of 10-kilometer and four-kilometer races, as well as a one-mile "fun run" or walk. If you're more of a boater than a runner, the Annual Boating & Outdoor Festival might be more up your alley. This event is held every September in Harrison Township, which is approximately nine miles from Roseville. It features in-water and on-land boats for sale from 10 to 60 feet in length, as well as outdoor recreation exhibits and other products such as ATVs, kayaks and electric bikes.
Those who prefer arts and crafts to running and boating may want to attend the Lac Ste. Clair Fine Arts Fair, known as the "Best Little Art Fair in Michigan." It is held every September in Saint Clair Shores, approximately two miles from Roseville.
Macomb Mall is a mecca for shoppers, featuring more than 85 specialty stores as well as several restaurants and a movie theater. It is located on Gratiot Avenue, Roseville's main thoroughfare, and has been open since the 1960s.
Roseville is close enough to Detroit that the state capital's attractions and events are within easy reach for local residents. These include the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Motown Historical Museum and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, as well as the city's three casinos. Meanwhile, sports fans can visit Comerica Park, Ford Field and the Joe Louis Arena to cheer on the city's baseball, football and ice hockey teams.
