Overview of Breckenridge

A beautiful prairie town located on the North Dakota/Minnesota border, Breckenridge is one of Minnesota's brightest and most sought-after communities. Nested near the banks of the winding Red River, Breckenridge has a storied past of settlement, and still continues to attract residents into the area to this day. Home to several tourist attractions, low crime and a high quality of life, many Minnesota residents are proud to call Breckenridge apartments for rent their new home. According to City-Data, it is one of Minnesota's more affordable places to live, too. Based on their 2012 data, the city's cost of living index is 22 points below the nation's national average, making Breckenridge a very attractive place to live for families on a budget.

Living in Breckenridge, MN

Early settlements in Breckenridge began as early as 1858, since the city has always been tied to the development of Fort Abercrombie, N. D., across the border. The city also developed as a sister city to Wahpeton during the 19th century, since they are both situated along the Red River. Much of Breckenridge's early development also developed because of its close location to both the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railroad. Today, the city continues to grow and prosper. According to City-Data, Breckenridge is home to more than 3,300 citizens. Although it is a small town, its close proximity to larger cities makes it the perfect place to live in a quaint atmosphere, but still have all the perks of big city life nearby.

Breckenridge Attractions and Special Events
