Local Reviews

The neighbors are very friendly, and quiet. The strees are clean and the houses and yards are well kept. There are lots of nearby lakes for entertainment and fishing. Closest city with a fair amount of shopping stores is 6 miles away.

I like it alot it is very awesome and cool. It is a good thing to do it straight through Paypal. It is the beat thing ever in the whole wide world

Higher quality people in the neighborhood. Friends and family live nearby. Tight knit area. Away from the middle of the city but still close enough to get anywhere in 15 minutes or less.

Plenty of parks and schools nearby. Lots of friendly neighbors. Big yards for kids to play in. Plenty of dog-walkers to visit with.

It is a very quiet area with a mix of families and individuals. We are close to the interstate but not so close that you can hear the noise.

It is very quiet. People are very friendly and everyone knows everyone, if you know what i mean. Its very centralized though.

Living in Owatonna, MN

According to local mythology, Owatonna is named for the Native American Princess Owatonna, who found restorative power in the spring water of Maple Creek. Princess Owatonna is remembered today by a statue at Mineral Springs Park, although the real story is more likely due to the original name for the Straight River, Ouitunya. Today, the "Jewel of the Prairie" is a thriving city on the banks of that river, serving as the Steele County seat and popular business destination.

Home to slightly more than 25,000 residents, Owatonna offers a pleasant environment with plenty of conveniences. Residents of Owatonna apartments will appreciate the area's extensive parkland and athletic facilities, as well as the large range of historical heritage and exciting cultural activities.

Owatonna Work and Study

Riverland Community College provides Owatonna students with a wide range of programs and state-of-the-art learning facilities at the Owatonna College and University Center.

Owatonna's largely agricultural roots are supplemented by a diverse range of businesses that include several major industrial, financial and service companies. Glass manufacturer Viracon, the city's largest employer, is headquartered in Owatonna, as are Federated Mutual Insurance, window hardware wholesaler Truth Hardware, tool company SPX, musical equipment manufacturer Wenger and school memorabilia company Josten's. The expansive local Cabela's, an outdoor gear retail supply store, is also a major source of jobs.

U.S. Census Bureau data showed the median gross rent from 2008 to 2010 was $633. Additional research found one bedroom apartments renting for between $440 and $590 per month.

Owatonna Attractions and Special Events

Owatonna's varied history has left a number of fascinating landmarks, and residents can learn about the past at many destinations around town. The Wells Fargo Bank building, formerly the National Farmers Bank, was designed by noted architect Louis Sullivan and dates back to 1906, while the stunning Owatonna Arts Center building, which hosts a range of art installations and performances, was built in 1886 as the Minnesota State Orphanage. Today the orphanage is remembered in the exhibits at the State Orphanage Museum.

Other historic landmarks include the Village of YesterYear, which features historic buildings and a caboose dating back to the 1850s and is housed on the Steele County Fairgrounds.
