Overview of St Anthony

St. Anthony is located between the downtown areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul and is known by residents as "The Village". The village includes a public golf course, bike trails, parks and its own K-12 school district.

Living in St. Anthony

This neighborhood was part of the Louisiana Purchase and was originally part of the Wisconsin territory. When Wisconsin gained statehood, the area was not included in the boundaries, so it was included in the Minnesota territory. The village first became a township in 1858, and in 1945 it was incorporated as a city.

Today, St. Anthony covers an area of 2.35 square miles and has 24.5 miles of city streets. The population according to the 2010 census is 8,226. This is a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis, which means is it considered part of the greater metropolitan area, and the village spans Hennepin and Ramsey counties. This neighborhood provides many recreational opportunities for a family or individual. The St. Anthony Community Theater provides opportunities for everyone to be involved in high-quality performing arts whether on stage, backstage or as an audience member. You can find plenty of outdoor activities with seven public parks and the Gross Golf Course available in the village. To help promote community, there is a Village Fest the first weekend of August that includes a golf tournament, 5K run, parade, pancake breakfast, live music and fireworks. The Community Theater schedules its summer production during Village Fest each year. All events are planned by a Village Fest committee made up of volunteers from the community. This is a great way to meet neighbors and become involved in the community.

Most people who own or rent in this neighborhood commute by car. As with the rest of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, there are carpool lanes on the major highways to encourage ride sharing. This comes in handy during rush hour when traffic tends to move slowly. There are public bus routes available if you do not own a car. Remember, if you work in Minneapolis or St. Paul, parking is expensive downtown, and sharing a ride or using public transportation can save money.
