Overview of St Peters

Lovingly known as "My Hometown" to those who live there -- so much so that the city magazine bears the same name -- St. Peters, MO, managed to land on Money magazine's list of the top 100 places to live in America in 2012. In fact, it was on the list three time in the five years leading up to 2012. Located just west of St. Louis and only minutes north of the Missouri River, you'll have a choice of apartments in neighborhoods near a variety of great parks, such as Oak Creek and Laurel Park.

Living in St. Peters

Whether you buy a home or become one of many apartment renters in St. Peters, you'll find that the area has a rich history. It was initially called home by Mississippian mound builders, but Europeans first showed up on the scene around 1790. It became a town in 1910, and though its population remained relatively low for the next 70 years, it quickly grew into a suburban community when it saw a population growth of over 3,000 percent in the 1970s.

Neighborhoods continued to grow in the last decades of the 20th Century, and you can now rent a great place alongside more than 52,000 other residents in the area. The city currently has eight alderman and and an elected mayor who oversee public affairs. Make sure you're ready to do your civic duty, because elections are held in the city every year.

As one of the area's apartment renters, you'll surely learn about all the great things to do in the city, but when you first arrive, you may want to check out the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau to get an idea of all that's available. Current residents sometimes like to head over to the BMX track for a bit of extreme fun, but those who want a more relaxing time can simply enjoy camping or fishing at 370 Lakeside Park.

When it comes to transportation, you may want to have your own vehicle stowed away at your apartment. This is because the St. Charles Transit system is only equipped with five buses. It's not too much of a hassle, though, since you'll also get curb-to-curb service with the bus.

Unfortunately, the service only runs Monday through Friday, and there's usually a five to ten minute window around their scheduled arrival time. The major transportation method is along Interstate 70, but the area is also served by rail and only 10 minutes away from Lambert International Airport.
