Old Monterey was pretty on the outside buts not so much inside and rent costs kept increasing. The tenant across the hall from me had an extensive criminal record and was dealing drugs out of the apartment. This was evident from the activity. The basketball court was right outside my window and people were in the courts in the middle of the night constantly waking me up. Im disabled and my service dog found drug needles while on a walk. The carpet had bleach stains upon moving in and cleaning the carpets regularly just made them look worse. When I moved out, they tried to claim that I had damaged the carpet. The inside of the apartment was very dated and my unit didnt have a dishwasher. The units dont have laundry in unit either. I would spend a little more and go somewhere with better amenities.

Its a good place, not new or shiny but decently maintained and the apartments are nice enough. Iv lived here for over 3 years and have had few complaints. The upper managment can be jerks about some things and they need to update there utilities such as air conditioning as it often needs recharged but they are at least quick to recharge it when needed. I have had few issues with neighbors and there are elderly and family types living here. Overall as long as you pay your rent and dont do anything stupid to damage the property you can live quietly in a clean and functional apartment at a reasonable price. The grounds are also very beautiful.

It's a good complex, lived there once. Considered re-applying, but the clerk told us that the availability "will appear" only after we apply, which let's us know that they will kick out unwanted residents to make space. Awful practice, so we didn't even apply.

The apartments are average and everything is cheap and they tend to charge extra so the 500 base line tends to go up pretty quick if you want things like a dish washer (which i believe all the units have whether you want one or not buy this point) or $25 a month to own a cat or dog. They also charge extra for each floor higher you live. The heat is paid for which is nice but the air conditioning is old and mine leaks so it stops working a couple times a year until i get them to refill it. The summer electric tends to make up somewhat for the low winter heating cost and they are clear you can do little to cover your windows or doors to keep heat or light out (unless its something white since we wouldn't want to subtract from the apartments uniform look!). The community inst bad (mostly elderly and low income) and the grounds are relay nice and green with a pool and such. the laundry rooms are typical for the sort of apartment and are both small and have a few dirty machines that seen cheep till you have to dry something 3 times (i use the wash house laundry around the corner and have for 3 years now). They do have security as well (if you count a singe guard that sits around at night and occasionally makes a slow loop, nodding at people he sees) but no cameras which may be a good things as i feel like they would use them to catch people infringing on there lease agreement rules. The apartment management is the biggest issue. They are all well studied on the long and extensive lease full of things your not allowed to do and seem to make regular rounds looking for any minor infraction they can call you on. They are also somewhat flexible on what they consider an inaction with no leniency or compassion that i have been able to find. I love the landscaping and im fairly happy with my apartment despite its cheapness but i don't think i would recommend it to anyone long term given another option.
