Living in Aberdeen, NJ

People living in Aberdeen apartments can enjoy a rich history, as the area was originally settled by people who became the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. As early as the year 1000, an agricultural society began to develop and small villages popped up. Dutch settlers arrived in the late 17th century, pushing Native American tribes west. The Dutch made a series of efforts to establish settlements in the area but were unsuccessful with permanent settlement.

The area that became Aberdeen remained part of the Middletown township from 1693 to 1848. In 1848, Middletown was split into two and the western half was made into a new municipality called Raritan township. The townships went through a series of divisions and renamings until November 8, 1977, when the residents of Matawan township voted to rename the area Aberdeen.
