The borough of Atlantic Highlands is located on the New Jersey shore overlooking lower New York Bay, with the Manhattan skyline towering in the distance. The town is situated in Monmouth County, approximately four miles east of Middletown and 23 miles south of New York City. Atlantic Highlands apartments for rent are excellent options to join the more than 4,300 residents living across 1.24 square miles of land.
The borough's hills include the highest point on the eastern seaboard south of Maine, according to the Atlantic Highlands website.
Atlantic Highlands was originally part of the Middletown Township and known as Portland Pointe. The community's prime waterfront location and climate helped to lure investors to the area in the late 1800s, contributing to the many Victorian homes that comprise this town today. Many of the Victorian homes have been preserved and restored and are said to add to the charm of small-town living.
The borough website refers to Atlantic Highlands as the Jewel of the Bayshore and as "a little bit of Victorian America tucked away at the Jersey Shore." The town includes a thriving business community, a wide array of dining options and an exceptional five-story senior citizen housing center.
The town also offers residents and visitors the excitement of a shore town, featuring a lively nightlife, beach relaxation and many beach bars and restaurants where patrons can enjoy fresh local seafood and great local music. A ferry provides easy transport across the Raritan Bay for local commuters to work in Manhattan or for nearby neighbors to come spend a day at the Atlantic Highlands beach.
Residents living in Atlantic Highlands apartments enjoy an excellent park system. One of the gems is the Henry Hudson Trail- Bayshore Trail, which features nine miles of paved trail that is used by walkers, bicyclists, in-line skaters and equestrians.
