A borough located in the heart of Bergen County, Lodi is a charming suburb of New York City that attracts many families wanting to be near the Metropolitan Area but still in a safe and quiet community that makes Lodi apartments for rent such a fast-growing commodity. With its affordable quality of life and close proximity to New York City transit, it makes sense that this is a popular community for families. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than one-fifth of the population in Lodi was under the age of 18, making this a great place to raise kids, live, work and play.
The areas around Lodi are some of the original communities founded in New Jersey. The oldest records date back to 1715; however, it is thought that European settlers were making their home in the area as early as 1675. Bergen County was declared a judicial district soon after, and Lodi has been designated as a "borough" ever since.
The Industrial Revolution and immigration of thousands into the New York City Metropolitan Area accounted for much of the city's growth in the late 19th century. By the early 1900s, Lodi acquired its own police force and a small community began to take shape. Named after a city in Italy, Lodi was incorporated in 1894 and was governed under the Municipal Manager Law in 1923. Although it has gone under many changes over the years, Lodi has always remained one of Jersey's finest communities to be a part of.
The closest university to Lodi is Felician College, a small institution that educates a diverse population of students under Catholic instruction. Students here can get undergraduate degrees in the arts, sciences, business, management, nursing or education at Felician. With a focus on strong student development on a small campus, scholars can have the warm, welcoming community here with everything New York City has to offer just moments away. Another popular college in the area is Montclair State University. With more than 300 concentrations in undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees, Forbes named Montclair State the Best Public University in New Jersey.

Approximately 82 percent of the employees in the area work for companies, 10 percent have government jobs and 4 percent are self-employed. Whether you are staying in town for work or traveling to the city, finding Lodi rentals near transit and Interstate 80 is an excellent way to cut back on your commute time.
Because Lodi is one of New Jersey's fastest-growing communities near the Big Apple, the cost of living here is higher than the national average. According to information from city-data.com, the median gross rent in the area in 2009 was $1,137 per month, a very affordable rate considering the high market value of the New York City Metropolitan Area.
One of the most popular festivals in the area is the Feast of St. Joseph. Nearly approaching its centennial year, this community event honors the Italian heritage of the area with authentic pizza and pasta, live musical entertainment at night and a carnival for the kids every Labor Day weekend.
Kennedy Park located in downtown Lodi is a popular spot among locals as well. With summer concerts each year, town-wide garage sales, summer camps, athletic facilities, resources for senior citizens and holiday events like tree lighting and an Easter egg hunt, the events at this park offer a great way to get to know other members of the community.
