With the iconic skyline of Manhattan in the background and the rolling Hudson River gracing its shoreline, it makes sense that so many residents in the Big Apple are calling West New York home. A diverse, close-knit community just a bridge away from everything greater New York has to offer, West New York apartments for rent are a great option for people who want to live in a warm, welcoming area but still want all the amenities of one of the world's greatest metropolises nearby. According to City-Data, people are starting to take notice of this great neighborhood, as it experienced a nearly 9 percent jump in population from 2000 to 2010.
West New York was mostly a community of Dutch farmers until a tunnel was built in the 1800s connecting the neighborhood to other places in the greater New York area. Down the road, the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln and Holland tunnels, and the railroad brought in a large influx of immigrants after the Civil War, lending to the diverse community that is seen in West New York today. Although the community had been active for many years, the city was not made official until 1898. Today, West New York is a growing community that still gives a nod to its industrial past, but looks forward to what the future holds. According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2011 estimates, the city is home to more than 50,000 residents.
Most people wouldn't consider the business hub of their city to be the area's biggest attraction, but that is not the case in West New York. Dubbed the Miracle Mile by grateful shoppers, this stretch of Bergenline Avenue is home to more than 300 shops, dealerships and markets. This famous strip is also home to many of the community's parades and festivals.
