Located along the shores of New York about 50 miles outside of New York City, Middle Island, NY is a tight-knit census-designated community located about halfway between eastern and western ends of Long Island. Consisting of about 8.2 square miles, the town holds about 12,300 residents. It is located within the Town of Brookhaven and part of the Longwood Central School District, the largest system on Long Island. Middle Island became a well-known city in 1766 when the first Presbyterian church was built. As an extension of Long Island, the town's rich history was formed by being one of the first suburbs in United States history. Prestigious Wall Street workers moved to Long Island in the 19th century after the ferry system allowed them to commute to and from work.
