Burlington, known for having the cleanest drinking water in North Carolina, is a city in Alamance County nestled in between the Smoky Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Filled with economic opportunity and an abundance of recreational opportunities and historical sites, Burlington is a great place for you and your family to rent an apartment and call home.
Burlington was officially named a city in 1893, and the railroad industry was the primary economic driver in the area for more than three decades. This changed after Textiles and clothing manufacturers moved into Burlington and took the city in a new direction.
Today, Burlington's population surpasses 50,000 residents, and residents here enjoy a balanced quality of life. Because it takes only three hours to get to the Smoky Mountains or various destinations along the East Coast, it's easy for residents to take regular vacations and weekend mini-trips to explore North Carolina. Getting to Greensboro, Durham, Graham and Chapel Hill takes about an hour's drive for access to more local activities and attractions.
Sports enthusiasts renting apartments in the downtown area will find that there are plenty of fun activities for active students. Softball is the biggest sport in the city; Burlington was awarded the American Softball Association Award of Excellence in November 2014. The Recreation & Parks Department also offers basketball, soccer, pickle and badminton leagues for adults. There are several parks and trails to get some fresh air including City Park, Lake Cammack and Country Nature Park. Fairchild Park offers BMX racing for bicycling enthusiasts and fans.
If you and your family want to learn about the rich history of the city check out the Dentzel Carousel, Graham Historical Museum, Textile Heritage Museum and the Alamance County Convention Center. Alamance Battleground is a must-see attraction for those who are looking to rent in the area.
Getting around the community is simple with the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transport running regular bus routes throughout the city. The local Amtrak station is located on Webb Street for easy access. There are also two airports that service the community: Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport and Bully Field Airport.
There are several colleges and universities near Burlington's neighborhoods. Elon University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Guilford Technical Community College and Duke University are great places to get a college education. Students who take online courses can get free Wi-Fi when they rent an apartment in the downtown area of Burlington.
There are several strong industries in the Burlington neighborhood with textiles, medical supply, manufacturing, construction and retail encompassing the largest work sectors. Some of the companies that hire the most people are Lab-Corp, Honda Aero, The Times News, Nike and National Agents Alliance.
