We enjoy living in this neighborhood, as there are many kind and friendly people who live here. The housing office staff is responsive and friendly. We enjoy the community pool in the summertime, and the social events that are planned by a designated welcome team. The biggest concern about our apartment complex is the exterior The area in front of our apartment is prone to water retention. Something needs to be done to correct this, as stagnant water is not sanitary especially during the summertime when mosquitoes are extremely prevalent. I have mentioned this several times and nothing has really been done about this. We often see dog feces on the grass that people have neglected to pick up. Inside the apartment tere is no storage space for shoes or jackets, which can be an issue if you have kids or lots of family visitors. In the 2 years that we have lived here we have lost power 5 times; I don't know if that is just our place or chapel hill in general. The maintenance staff is very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. But there are a lot of problems with the apartment. One of our kitchen cabinets broke 3 times while we loved here. Our bathtub stopper has had to be fixed several times. Finally, there have been some electric problems that have had to be repaired.

Midtown 501 is terribly managed. The leasing office staff are great with the exception of Daniel. I would not recommend anyone to rent at Midtown 501. The management company tries to get every bit of your $$. They are unfair and terrible to the community of Chapel Hill.

Great service, apartments are well designed. Some equipment eg washing machine / dryer and dishwasher need upgrading. The maintenance guys do a great job. Units on the first floor can be loud depending on the residents above them. That said, facilities are excellent and it's great bang for the buck. The community is warm and endearing.

The management was mostly responsive to my requests for fixing things around the apartment, however my move-out experience was a nightmare. Management ended up being sneaky, charging us an obscene amount of money due to "damage" without telling us ahead of time, nor giving us an opportunity to consult third-parties regarding the extent of the "damage". They ended up keeping the situation from us, spending around $3,000 on "damages," and invoicing us on the absolute last day they were legally obligated to tell us. I would never recommend Midtown 501 to anyone, given this sneaky, unethical and unfair behavior. Sadly, North Carolina is a state that usually sides with landlords and not tenants, unlike New York or California so unfair landlord practices are harder to address legally.

Maintenance has always been very attentive whenever we have needed anything. Overall the neighborhood is very friendly and welcoming to dogs which is a big plus for us!
