Cigarette Smoke I have been dealing with second hand cigarette smoke in my apartment since my first complaint Read More 10/9/17. I moved here from a smoking complex specifically because the website states they offer smoke free living. If you are concerned about second hand smoke, ask what the smoking detection/resolution methods are. Although they adopt a smoke free policy, the lease also states there is no warranty of a smoke free environment I have been reminded of this twice now. I dont know how you can have it both ways, but read this section carefully. I was told in an email from the complex on 10/16/17 that several residents in the building reported the same issue with smoke in response to an email sent by the complex. An email 10/18/17 stated location was pinpointed and a direct violation letter was sent. When the cigarette smoke continued, I asked for a meeting with the manager. She sends another email to residents 11/16/17 and said she received no responses this time. Also said she spoke with the tenets thought to be in violation and they assured her they werent smoking. Apparently, this is the complex detection/resolution policy for the situation. Simply question residents and if they say no, youre done. The last email I received offered a complementary vent cleaning/treatment for residual (as in - not ongoing) odor. Not certain what treatment methods are used as I havent received a response, but you need to be cautious here as well. According to Science Daily, Concordia University researchers found formaldehyde is the chemical by-product of attempting to clean the air with photocatalytic oxidation (PCO).
