Overview of Bexley

Located in Franklin County, Bexley is a quiet and peaceful community and one of the main suburbs of Columbus. The National Road, also known as Route 40, runs right through the center of town. Known by many for the large university located in the city, it is also home to the former Ohio Governor's Mansion. When you become one of the apartment renters living in the city, you have the opportunity to experience a city with a long history and connection to the state.

Living in Bexley

Colonel Lincoln Kilbourne lived in a small village that he named Bexley after his family's hometown. After residents of nearby Pleasant Ridge and Bullitt Park agreed to form one large city. Due to the large number of wealthy land owners in the community, the state chose it as the location for the Governor's Mansion. The small community became a village in 1908 and a city in the 1920s.

The city is now home to a number of private schools that prepare students for attending one of the local colleges. Though its population was once as low as 1,000 people, its population now reaches more than 10,000.

Downtown Bexley is home to a large number of historic structures that are popular with apartment renters looking for something less modern. The Drexel Theater and Rubino's Pizzeria are two of the more famous landmarks located in the city. Take some time to simply drive down National Road and check out the historic sites and structures.

Though you cannot rent the Ohio Governor's Residence and Heritage Garden to live in, you can enjoy a visit. While the governor no longer resides there, it is still a popular destination for class field trips and history buffs.

If you love history, you'll also want to visit Jeffrey Park. Home to the historic Jeffrey Mansion, the park also has picnic areas, shelters, playgrounds and wooded areas for exploring. The neighborhood also has several other parks with walking, hiking and fitness trails, playgrounds for kids and other outdoor activities. You can also sign up for a membership to the community pool in the spring and summer.

Not far away from Bexley is the Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Exhibitions hosted throughout the year showcase various plants that are native to Ohio and other plants brought to the state. The park is also home to a large collection of glass pieces designed and implemented by Dale Chihuly and a light display created in 2008.

The Central Ohio Transit Authority, also known as COTA, is responsible for sending hundreds of buses throughout central Ohio every day. Those buses have a number of stops along the main roads in Bexley and drop riders off along the same stops. If you live on the outskirts of the city, you may prefer having your own car.
