Overview of Delphos

Delphos, Ohio, or "America's Friendliest City," is in the northwest region of the state. The city is very connected to its past and its leaders tout its ability to preserve its history. The city emerged because of its ideal location on the Miami and Erie Canal, and although the canal has declined in importance, Delphos continues to welcome new residents and businesses. Delphos apartments for rent are the perfect place for any families looking to settle down in a deep-rooted town.

Living in Delphos, OH

Delphos was established out of four towns, founded by settlers who were attracted to the area because of work being done on the Miami and Erie Canal. The first settlement was between 1836 and 1842, and pioneers from Germany settled between 1832 and 1846. The towns merged into Delphos in 1851, and it grew into a manufacturing hub thanks to the canal and, later, the Lincoln Highway.

Today, Delphos still a major manufacturing city. The area is home to woodworking, printing, power companies and more.  After work, the city's 7,000 residents can enjoy public parks with a total of 52 acres and a swimming pool, sports fields and more.

Delphos Attractions and Special Events

Residents enjoy the annual Canal Days celebration every fall. Everyone along the canal route participates in this multi-day event that pays tribute to its past, hosts large music acts and promotes community bonding.

Delphos offers residents many ways to connect with the city's history. The Delphos Canal Museum allows visitors to get a glimpse into life from 1851 and on. It features a 1902 Sears Buggy Roadster, antique tools and the only preserved canal boat in Ohio, and many other displays.  Residents also take a step back in time with the Delphos Museum of Postal History, which allows them to experience the development of transportation and evolution of the postal service and enjoy a World War II exhibit.

When residents want to get away for a quick trip, they can choose between several large cities. Toledo, Ohio, is 90 miles northeast, Columbus, Ohio, is 109 miles southeast and Indianapolis, Ind., is 157 miles southwest.
