Sylvania is located in northwest Ohio and sits in Lucas County. The city is positioned approximately nine miles northwest of Toledo, Ohio, and hugs the Michigan state line. Sylvania apartments for rent offer an excellent way to join the growing population of nearly 19,000 people living across the approximate 6.5 square miles of land.

Living in Sylvania, OH

The land on which Sylvania is located was originally a swampland. General David White acquired the land in 1832 and reportedly argued with Judge William Wilson over the name. White wished to call the area Whiteford, and Wilson was in favor of Sylvania, which is Latin for "woods or trees." In fact, the dispute over the name evolved into a dispute over the claim for the land between the states of Michigan and Ohio, with Wilson and Ohio eventually winning.

Sylvania officially received its name on July 13, 1836, and has grown from a swampland into a thriving city since then. People looking for Sylvania apartments can investigate the Main Street area for a taste of history, and they can also enjoy a wide area of beautiful homes in a city that proudly embraces a true sense of community. The city is also home to Lourdes University, which provides students with an education in fields ranging from nursing to business.
