Living in Tipp City, OH
Tipp City was founded in 1840 as Tippecanoe City, in honor of presidential candidate William Henry Harrison and the heroism he displayed during the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe. In its early days, Tipp City was a hub of shipping and trading, and provided a shipping lane north to Lake Erie and south to the Ohio River at Cincinnati. The rise of the railroad age in the 1850s and 1860s spurred the growth of many towns, but had the opposite effect on this municipality as the use of the canals waned, along with the area's growth.
In 1875, Tipp City merged with the unincorporated town of Hyattsville. The merger, in conjunction with the development of U.S. Highway 25 and Interstate 75, kickstarted growth in the area once again. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Tipp City encompassed 7.53 square miles of land in 2010 and had a population of 9,689.
