Butler is located in western Pennsylvania, approximately 29 miles north of Pittsburgh. The city is the seat of Butler County and is considered part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Butler apartments for rent offer attractive options for joining the growing population of more than 13,800 people living across 2.72 square miles of land.
The city is situated along Benjamin Franklin Highway and State Route 68, providing accessible road transportation to its residents. Residents can also take advantage of the Butler County/K. W. Scholter Field Airport, and Pittsburgh International Airport is a little more than an hour's drive away.
The first settlers to the Butler area were of Scottish or Irish descent, with German immigrants arriving to the area in 1802. The city was named to pay tribute to Major General Richard Butler, who was killed in 1791 during the Battle of Wabash. Butler was incorporated as a borough in 1816 and reached the status of a city in 1918.
The city of Butler is proud to provide its citizens with neighborhood schools, playgrounds and parks. In addition, it has a thriving commercial district that primarily features family owned business, restaurants, and specialty shops. The community is actively engaged in efforts to improve the city, and Butler Downtown is a grassroots initiative aimed at revitalizing the city's central business district.
People living in Butler apartments have numerous cultural attractions to enjoy, including the Marindon Museum, which gives visitors insight into Japanese and Chinese art and culture. The Butler County Historical Society established its headquarters at the Senator Walter Lowrie Shaw House, which now serves as a museum on the area's rich history.
For outdoor recreation, Raccoon Creek, McConnells Mill, and Hillman state parks all provide residents with scenic, natural landscapes to enjoy. Other notable attractions in the area include Butler County Heritage Center, Moraine State Park, National Aviary, Pittsburgh Zoo, and PPG Aquarium.
