Local Reviews

We enjoy living here because of the close proximity to the highway while maintaining a small town, rural feel. Within minutes you can be at a variety of stores and restaurants. We enjoy the slower pace of this area. Hopefully it stays this way!

Our neighborhood has a lot of restaurants that are not chain restaurants. Can easily walk to grocery, fast food, liquor store, and other amenities that are needed in daily life Many of the homes have dogs and the area is close to a dog park that most of us use for the dogs and for socializing

I love the mix of restaurants. The Best bbq restaurant is right in the middle of town. And there is a wonderful local butcher shop that has the coolest burgers.

It's location is great. Our close neighbors are wonderful. It's nearby to the schools and grocery stores yet set back away from a lot of the commotion

About

Mount Joy, PA

Overview of Mount Joy

Mount Joy, PA, is often included in lists of "delightfully-named towns" in Lancaster County. While the name of the town is often shortened to Mt. Joy, the "mount" does not refer to a mountain but to the sailing ship on which the original settlers traveled across the Atlantic. Located 87 miles east of Philadelphia, Mount Joy is a small town that is known for its historic sites, tourist attractions, and delicious dining and recreational options. If you are considering living in Lancaster County to experience the Amish and Dutch cultures and histories, a Mount Joy apartment for rent may be the ideal choice for you and your loved ones.

Living in Mount Joy

The tiny town of Mount Joy was originally founded by Scots-Irish immigrants. Today, the area is composed of the three original towns of Richland, Florin and Mount Joy, which combined in 1851. Mount Joy is located between the river towns of western Lancaster County and Manheim and is situated along what was once the main road between Harrisburg and Lancaster: the Harrisburg-Lancaster Turnpike.

Currently, the town consists of homeowners and apartment renters that make up a population surpassing 7,848 people, and the population has grown 16 percent since 2000. While the neighborhood is relatively small compared to nearby towns, it is well known throughout the region for its history and culture. Much of the residential architecture of the downtown area dates from before 1939, although many outlying developments have been erected since.

Whether you will be among the many apartment renters in the area or you plan to make the town your permanent home, there are several opportunities to explore the borough and all it has to offer. The Exchange Hotel, located at the corner of East Main Street and North Barbara Street, is one of the borough's oldest buildings, and the Joy Theater was considered by many to be the most beautiful in the county when it was erected in 1938. Spangler's Flour Mill first began its operation in 1854, and the mill is fully functional to this day.

If you're planning to rent here and are more outdoorsy, the town is also home to many acres of recreational parks and facilities, including Little Chiques Park, Florin Park, Grandview Park, and Westview Park. If sports are your style, Spooky Nook Sports, the largest indoor sports complex in North America, is located just five miles away.

While the neighborhood and the nearby towns of Salunga and Landisville can be easily navigated by car, residents can also take advantage of several other transportation options. An Amtrak train station is located at the corner of East Henry Street and North Market Street, and public bus service in the neighborhood is provided by Red Rose Transit.
