Management changed hands while I lived there and new management was extremely unprofessional and did not honor written commitments from prior ownership.
Upon signing with the original owners, we paid a non-refundable "cleaning fee" in lieu of a security deposit with the understanding that this would cover normal wear and tear of the apartment. Upon moving out, however, we were charged with mundane expenses (grout cleaning, oven cleaning, etc...). Additionally, we asked management to walk through the property with us so we could understand if the condition was acceptable and they verified it was.
Even worse, we were not notified that we had an outstanding charge on our account. We found out about this issue once management left us an urgent voicemail informing us that we needed to pay that same day or else they would call collections. When pressed about why we had not been informed sooner, management lied to us and told us they called telling us of the balance. Upon checking my phone records, I verified this was not the case.
It is unfortunate that I had this experience because I genuinely enjoyed the apartments, maintenance, and a majority of my stay. However, because of management's incompetence, I can not in good faith recommend this apartment to anyone.

Overall it has been a good experience. Service is timely. The apartments (mine) is a bit outdated and due to construction there are still some areas within my apartment that need to be fixed. (My apartment renovations were complete months ago).

I have McBee the rating I did, solely because of the complexes management. Not only during renovations did they not inform us of any updates or expectations. It was extremely time consuming just to get a timeline from the front office of when to expect renovations to be done. I work in construction and completely understand there is no way to nail down an exact timeline but I do know that they could have given us significantly more updates than they did. For example, I would come home from work to find my windows removed, wall removed and master bedroom in shambles. I had no forwarding and if I did, I would've have at least covered my furniture and belongings with plastic. The construction on my building alone lasted my entire lease, 1 whole year. I later learned that there were issues with my building that had nothing to do with the renovations. The management office was not only not helpful but withheld information constantly from us. Not to mention, McBee is one of the more expensive apartment complex's downtown Greenville. Their standards are too low for what they are charging for rent. Once my lease was up, I didn't even give renewing me lease a second thought. At my current apartment complex that I have lived at for over a year and a half, there have also been construction and renovations. BUT they have communicated exactly what was going on the entire time, it was done in a timely manner, they gave me a discounted rent without me having to ask and they circled back around after to see if I was happy with how they handled it. It would take me multiple attempts to even get a meeting with the front office at McBee. Coworkers, friends or acquaintances that have asked if they should live at McBee, I have told them absolutely not.

This complex is overpriced considering the age of the units and the availability of other complexes with updated units for less money.
