Great two-bedroom apartments for rent in Memphis should be easy to come by, but one neighborhood offers the easy, constant access to Elvis Presley's history and memory that diehard fans are looking for: Whitehaven. The neighborhood is home to the King's Graceland estate, as well as a wealth of opportunities for outdoor activity and shopping, so it's hard to imagine ever feeling out of touch with the historic spirit and vibrant culture of Memphis while living in Whitehaven.
In Whitehaven, the King isn't dead: His impact on Memphis can still be felt wherever you go.
Elvis Presley Boulevard runs through the center of the district, a constant reminder of the star who lived in and shaped the neighborhood. Residents can easily visit Elvis' former Graceland estate and walk from room to room imagining what it was like when the musician lived there. Two planes that Presley owned - a Lockheed Jetstar and a Convair 880 - are on display for visitors at the site, as are the many classic cars and motorcycles the King had in his collection. After you've seen those not-to-be-missed pieces of memorabilia, you can relax and pay homage to Presley in the meditation garden that lies within Graceland.
Those who want to immerse themselves in all things Elvis can take part in Elvis Week, which takes place at the estate yearly around the anniversary of the King's death, Aug. 16.
If you'd like to get a well-rounded view of Memphis' music history, you can take a quick stroll north from Graceland on Elvis Presley Boulevard, and you'll arrive at the W.C. Handy Blues Museum and Performing Arts Center.
After you take in all the Elvis landmarks and other Memphis music sites you can, Whitehaven offers an array of pleasant parks where residents can walk, run, picnic or watch a sunset.
Lanier Park lies just southwest of Graceland on Auburn Road, which runs parallel with Elvis Presley Boulevard. Alternatively, scenic Gardenview Park is to the east of the main drag, and the Days Creek runs along it, making the park a calm, country-like haven in the midst of the city. Meanwhile, Raines Finely Park occupies a larger stretch of land just off Graceland Avenue.
The Whitehaven Country Club offers golf enthusiasts an exclusive course dotted with ponds and scenic views. For those who don't want to pay for club membership, the Whitehaven Golf Course is a public answer to the country club and lies on the outer edge of the same grounds.
Once you're ready to relax and head indoors, Whitehaven also features plenty of options for shopping, eating and drinking, making it one of the best spots to look for apartments in Memphis.
At the intersection of Elvis Presley Boulevard and East Shelby Drive, you'll find the Southland Mall. Inside the shopping center are a range of retail stores, as well as a number of popular restaurants.
In and around Whitehaven, you can easily find bars and nightclubs of all kinds. Dad's Place - one of Elvis' old haunts - lies at the northern tip of the neighborhood on East Brooks Road.
